Nottingham Cathedral 175th Anniversary

The Cathedral Church of St Barnabas, the mother church of the Diocese of Nottingham celebrated its 175th Anniversary on Monday.

Mass to mark the occasion was celebrated by Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Archbishop of Westminister and President of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales.

Archbishop Malcolm McMahon preached about the building’s architecture pointing towards God, as was the architect Pugin’s ‘pointed’ style and that we can become living stones.

In the 175th year of the Cathedral, the Cathedral Parish also marks the 50th anniversary of affiliation to the Archconfraternity in Westminister Guild of St Stephen.
